![]() Hydrogen Fuel Station UK In what was seen as an important step in a UK-wide scheme to make hydrogen vehicles a viable alternative to petrol-driven cars, the UK's first public hydrogen vehicle refuelling station was constructed in Swindon on the M4 motorway. Hydrogen-powered cars are powered by electric motors and as such, can be seen as electric vehicles. However they have the added advantage that are not held back by the limited range of batteries. An electric battery car typically has a range of 60 miles (100km), and can take up to five hours to recharge, while a hyrogen car typically has a range of 300 miles and can be refuelled in less than five minutes.
